Mobile GPS thread (Apps/Hardware etc.)

  • Thread is about anything related to GPS.

    I'll start ...
During late 2012 - early 2013, ive been buying and selling phones (palugi, less than a week old mostly) because most of the gps hardware then were hit or miss. I realized then that even lenovo, samsung and lg didnt have a decent GPS radio/signal/app unless the price is over 15-20k (mid hi to hi end). even my kobe phone (K900) had a crappy gps. only sony xperia phones had good gps hardware then @ 10k and above price range.

Now, even sub 15k xiaomi phones and my kids' vivo phone (forgot the model but it was under 12k early this year IIRC), can quickly lock gps signal and a 3m accuracy. far cry from what i was getting before.

can anyone share their gps locker screenshots, and phone model? ill post mine later ..

    thanks!

It depends on the SoC, most xiaomi and vivo use Qualcomm SoC and have the best GPS module compare to other chipset
  • xperia t2 ultra snapdragon - best
samsung c9 pro snapdragon - good
    lg g3 s snapdragon - bad
    lenovo k800 intel - bad
xperia c5 ultra mediatek- better than good
    asus tablet 7" - bad
asus zenfone 5 intel - ok lang not that bad
moto e4 plus mediatek - ok lang not that bad
samsung 3v tablet - ok lang not that bad
xperia xa1 mediatek - better than good
    pocophone - better than good

    so far yan naalala ko.
plus other phones ng officemate ko na china phones including 1st few releases ng xiaomi, pangit din gps.
  • 1st ko gumamit ng gps for navigation is Nokia N82 8 years ago mas mabilis parin AGPS at mas accurate kesa rely lang purely sa gps module, tapos offline maps although sa google maps meron narin nyan now.
  • ang bad trip kasi dito bro, gps talaga problem since during testing; data signal is high but gps is not locking talaga. ang ginawa ko nalang recently eh mag test ng current mobile phones ng officemates bago bumili LOL
  • oppo A3S - better than good

i might get one as my car gps / music player :)
  • mi max 3 - better than good
weird thing about this unit is if it detects 30 satellites, it will connect to all 30 of them O_o
same with pocophone peformance except youll notice the 1 sec delay in connecting to the satellites. not much of an issue really, but it just show how faster the pocophone is. btw both pocophone and this had an accuracy of 5m on a good connection.
  • update: just realized meditek soc can see more satellites, but connecting is a bit longer. e.g. mid end vs mid end (mediatek vs snapdragon)
btw only about 3-10 seconds longer in most cases
  • I realized na Oppo A3s = Realme C1
for 5.5k @ L4z4d4, very decent ang specs at mabilis din GPS lock.

if discounted ulit, I recommend this din.
